The pretty port of Essaouira has a laidback vibe with oceanfront ramparts, a market, a calm medina, a crescent bay, and flotillas of bright blue fishing boats. It is an exceptional example of a late-18th-century fortified town.
"Browsing the stalls in the colourful, cobbled streets of the medina is a delightful experience; look out for the colourful hand-painted tagines and pots, tooled leather bags and purses, and huge wooden bowls and jewellery boxes made out of thuya wood from the nearby Atlas Mountains."
