Discover Ghana’s diverse culture, history and wildlife on this introductory tour that takes you from the golden coast to lush rainforests and elephant-spotted savannahs; en-route, you’ll visit traditional craft villages, UNESCO-listed shrines and colonial forts steeped in stirring, slave-trade-era history

Overview

Ghana is one of West Africa's most culturally diverse and colourful destinations, known for its famous warmth and hospitality. Embark on your journey in Ghana's vibrant coastal capital, Accra, to discover the country’s most captivating highlights. You will travel in a loop from the coast through the waterfall-studded Volta Region and cultural heartland of Kumasi to the northern reaches of Mole National Park, before ending back on the coast in Elmina.

Throughout the trip, you’ll meet Ghana’s warm, welcoming locals during visits to remote communities. In the Ashanti region, skilled weavers will show you how they produce Adinkra and Kente fabrics with techniques passed down through generations. Meanwhile, in Boabeng Fiema and Tafi Atome, you’ll meet villagers who protect sacred monkeys in forested sanctuaries. An overnight stay in Bonkro Village gives you the opportunity to join farmers to learn how cacao is harvested, cook Ghanaian dishes and take part in bird-watching forest walks and tree planting, contributing to the communities we visit, leaving nothing but positive footprints.

You’ll also discover plenty of cultural landmarks, from shrines and ancient palaces that belonged to the once-powerful Ashanti kingdom, to Cape Coast Castle, a British colonial fort with its infamous Door of No Return, where you’ll confront the harrowing legacy of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. Then there’s Ghana’s iconic African wildlife; track elephants on foot and take river safaris in the country’s largest national park, Mole, and spot tropical birds from walkways high above the rainforest in Kakum National Park.
